The radComms ListServ is open to new applications! Here are some frequently asked questions from new and existing ListServ members:
What email address should I use in my application to the RadComms ListServ?
We strongly advise using a personal email address that is not associated with a job so you are able to maintain your membership to the RadComms ListServ even if you change roles. Additionally, the RadComms ListServ is hosted on Google Groups so you will need to use an email that can have an attached Google account.
How can I keep up with RadComms outside of the Google Group ListServ?
Feel free to learn more about our forthcoming anthology and our work on the BROKE project and consult our Resource Directory. You can sign up for upcoming #RadSessions here and view past #RadSessions here. You can also follow us on Instagram and LinkedIn.
Do you have any guidance for completing the Google Group application form?
We highly recommend setting aside 20 to 30 minutes to complete the application so that our review team has a clear understanding of you, your work, and why you want to be part of the network. RadComms is an active community of practice and we expect all prospective members to read our Guiding Principles and Community Guidelines carefully to confirm that they are aligned and committed to participation.
Why was my application denied?
RadComms sees our assignment in the field of social justice movements as specific and strategic, and we look for members accordingly. We may deny an application because the applicant’s politics do not appear aligned, the applicant does not incorporate narrative in their work, or the applicant does not seem prepared to engage in collaboration and mutuality on the ListServ (for example, if they are only looking for a job). For the safety of our network, we also require sufficient information to vet applicants, in the form of thorough answers to each question and may deny an application if it lacks substantial information. Unfortunately, due to the high volumes of applications we receive we are unable to offer specific feedback on any individual applications.
How do you decide if someone is a good fit?
RadComms is likely a good fit if you hold progressive and leftist politics and are working toward justice and liberation for people from marginalized and historically excluded communities. Communications, PR, and marketing professionals who are primarily looking to grow their network, advertise services, post and apply for jobs but do not have this political lens are not a good fit for this network.
Can I re-apply, and if so, how long do I need to wait?
You are welcome to re-apply at any time.
I just got accepted. What should I do next?
After you receive an email notification of your acceptance, you will receive an additional email from Google Groups alerting you that you have been added directly to the ListServ. Follow the link in this email to access the group. Your acceptance email also includes information on how to change the cadence of emails you receive in Google Groups.
If I am an existing member of the Google Group, do I need to re-apply using the new form?
No, existing Google Group members do not need to re-apply using the new form. If you are an existing member and have colleagues or friends who are interested in joining the network, they will need to submit an individual application.
If I am an existing member of the Google Group, how do I change the email associated with the RadComms ListServ?
Email hello@radcommsnetwork.org with your name, the email address you currently use on the ListServ, and the email address you would like to use instead.
